A reply to a 5-star Google review only needs a sentence or two. Thank the customer by name and mention something from their review, so it's clear you've read it rather than pasted a stock line. Below are 30 short replies grouped by type of business and situation. Use them as a starting point and change the details each time.

What makes a good thank-you reply
- Use their first name, if they've given one.
- Pick up one detail from the review, such as the dish, the job or the staff member they mention.
- Keep it short. Two sentences is plenty.
- Vary your wording, so your profile doesn't show the same line under every review.
- Sign off with your own name now and then, so it reads as a person.
For the basics of replying and how to handle the less happy reviews, see our guide on how to respond to Google reviews.

Particular situations
- Star rating with no text: "Thanks for the five stars, Ben. Much appreciated."
- Your first ever review: "Thank you, Laura. This is our very first Google review, so it means a lot to us."
- A long-standing customer: "Thanks, Pete. After all these years it's still good to see you every week."
- A staff member mentioned by name: "Thanks, Fiona. I'll make sure Jake sees this. He'll be chuffed."
- A customer who had a problem first: "Thank you, Sam. Sorry again about the delay at the start, and thanks for being so patient while we sorted it."
- A very short review such as "Great service": "Thanks, Nadia. Glad we could help, and we hope to see you again."
Keeping replies manageable
If you get a lot of reviews, replying to every one can take time. A few minutes once or twice a week is usually enough, working through the newest first. Some businesses use AI tools to draft thank-you replies, which can help if someone reads and edits each one before posting. Our article on using AI to reply to Google reviews looks at the pros and cons.
Asking every customer for a review and making it easy, for example with a Google review stand by the till, is covered in our guide on getting more Google reviews.
Common questions
Do I need to reply to 5-star reviews?
You don't have to, but it's worth it. Google suggests replying to reviews, and it shows other customers that real people read them.
Is it OK to use the same reply for every 5-star review?
It's better not to. A wall of identical replies looks automatic. Changing a word or two and mentioning a detail is enough.
Should I reply to 5-star reviews with no text?
Yes. A short thank you is all it needs.
Does replying to reviews help my Google ranking?
Google says positive reviews and helpful replies can help a business stand out, and that replying shows customers you value their feedback. It doesn't say that replies on their own change where you rank.
